Greetings Trailblazers!
As promised at Thursday night’s Roundtable he is my update:
Summer Camp The current discount for Longhorn Council Summer Camp early registration is a free Camp T-Shirt customized with their unit # for all youth and adults reserved through March 31st. There are still summer camp staff positions available at all LHC Camps. March 14th is camp staff interviews from 1-4pm at the Council Office for Worth Ranch and Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. Interviews for Camp Tahuaya will take place at CT. This is your opportunity to help make LHC Summer camps the desired summer camp for your units as well as many others! Remember the old saying; if you want summer camp done right, you gotta pitch in and do it yourself!?!? (Okay, so I just made that up). Youth can serve as Counselors-In-Training beginning at 14 years old. Paid positions begin at 16 . Make sure your Scouts fill out the summer camp staff application located at http://www.longhorncouncil.org/uploads/ba/ba11f4b9-e961-4478-a713-2b6a9c172994.pdf and bring it to the interview.
Camp Staff Teaching Skills Training Day is Thursday, June 10th. We will start out at SR2 at 8:00am and proceed to WR after lunchtime. If you can help teach the Scouts teaching skills please let myself or Jeff Peters know.
Maverick Troop Commissioners are needed for the 3rd & 4th week of Summer Camp at SR2.
And at all LHC Summer Camps: Baden Powell Patrol contest, prizes each week for best original uniform (youth & adult). So dig out those extremely old uniforms and bring ‘em to camp!

And Tom Lucas (WR Summer Camp Program Director) is adding Wilderness First Aid Camp Shuman is closed and all council owned property is or has been re-located to the other LHC camps. Camp Shuler has a new caretaker, Neil Carr. The YMCA Clark Nolin Facility has been acquired by LHC. When the facility is opened for use the facility will be used for (but not limited to): Swim Checks, Unit & Family Swim, 2 Climbing Towers/walls (one outside, one inside), 6+ bounce houses, flight simulators (shuttle, lunar landing craft, and another TBD), meeting/party rooms, training, future day camps, and another very intriguing interactive facility I cannot release info on at this time!
Committee Reports Order of the Arrow Still compiling a “Where to go Camping” list; http://www.wheretocamp.org/ , please share your favorite camping locations! OA Ordeals: SR2 04/30-05/02 and 09/24-09/26; CT 05/21-05/23; and WR 08/27-08/29.

If you haven’t attended a LHC Summer Camp in the last three years but plan to attend in 2010 make sure to write that down! Or maybe you have already but do not have a full trek try contacting other units in the district to see if they have others in the same situation.
Campmaster Corps-need volunteers
Weekend Event Volunteer Program: Troops and Crews are needed to help with various Cub Scout events at council camps. If your unit can supply at least 10 youth and adults you can earn a certificate for camp facilities such as climbing tower, pontoon boats, etc. Volunteers are needed for Cub Family Adventure March 13th and Cub Rocket Academy March 20th. Attached is a Volunteer Staff form.
Camp workdays: SR2 Bike Trail Work Weekends; March 6, 13, 20 and April 3, 10, 17, and 24.
New Merit Badges in the works: Geocashing, Scuba, Inventing, Robotics, and possibly Scouting History. The pamphlets and workbooks are being created, so look for them sometime in the near future!
Council camps will no longer supply shotgun shells and clays for weekend outings, except summer camp. .22 shells are available, however.
Twin Arrows Summer Coarse July 5th-9th and July 12th-16th @ SR2.
Beginning in 2011 youth will be allowed to take Powderhorn if in venture crew. Also beginning in 2011 Powderhorn and TA will be co-ed, with a special sneak preview offered for this year’s spring (full already) and summer courses.
And finally, Saturday May 1st (yes, it is Ordeal weekend, but your whole troop didn’t get elected into OA now, did they?) is the Bike MS 150. Volunteers are really needed to help with this great charitable endeavor. Troop 321 volunteered last year and the boys really had a good time (until the severe weather moved in and we had to leaveL). If interested please contact Lee Kilborn at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 469-619-4703. And attached to this email you can find a list of volunteer positions needed. Did I mention that your unit can camp for FREE! And if I’m not mistaken, they will be fed lunch and/or dinner (but check with Mrs. Kilborn first). Cub, Scout, and Venture Units are welcome to volunteer, too!
